We do what it takes to help others do better.

To document a few recent DesignAVS activities as the designavs.com team often operates in stealth mode for others...

11/19/09: This page hummingbird sound clip and other sound in our main website areas Windows XP PC tested only in Firefox and IE today. Contact us if you want the free ability to upload and embed videos in your websites made where everyone gets to hear great Dolby Stereo sound for those with the capability.

11/13/09: Contact us to have us set up a 'free video and audio sharing website' in Beta-development now after many years but still not general 'public' information. Yes we provide a way to share the information you upload to us to all the common public social network video websites including YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, Linked In, Google Video, ... We reduce your advertising burdens by automating processes.

11/7/09: Soon we will share the growing list of companies we help start. Often in stealth secret mode to set apart from competition.

1/2/09: Advertising history sections under construction. In three now and adding search capability because was loading way to slow on some connections. What is your favorite slogan, jingle, or commercial so we can add it? We now have links to Life Cereal: "He likes it, hey Mikey" and from Coca-Cola: "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing ( In Perfect Harmony ). And even a few of the goofy Rainer Beer commercials like the motorcycle and frogs. Note: we use YouTube like everyone while can show you how to better deploy to advertise with more detail and impact. We provide the best possible audio, video, and synchronization improvements as part of our standard advertising, graphics design projects, web development, and SEO services as we keep up with technology trends.

For business projects and ideas. Or if you want to schedule a DesignAVS review of your organization or personal project to know how we might help. Please feel free to contact me directly.

Playing sound / music on Windows PCs in Firefox & Internet Explorer ( IE )

I recently created an animation out of our logo at our main page http://www.designavs.com where the hummingbird's wings flap. I have fed hummingbirds here in Oregon for three years now through the winters and love their sound so included wing and chirping sounds from a feeder.

With a .mp3 file wanted to share it on our main page and wrote some HTML code to do so in a way that is intended to support 90% of computers (in the future will go for more but for that will have to use Java).

The first time I went to our website in Internet Explorer ( IE version 7.0.5730.11) I had to install the windows media player plug in to get it to work.

When I played it the first time in Firefox it played fine but did not have any sound controls to stop, start, rewind, etc. In the place of where the controls should be it said "no video". I discovered this was a known error with the VLC plugin for Firefox so disabled it in Firefox with a Tools > Add-ons then scrolled down to "VLC Multimedia Plugin" and disabled it. This link helped me:

http://www.portfolioofpb.com/blog/vlc-mozilla-firefox-plugin-crash-firefox-solve-by-uninstall-reinstall-vlc

When I closed and opened Firefox again and went to designavs.com it said I needed a plug-in and when I clicked on it to find something suitable I got an error that no plugin was found. So doing a search I found there is a Firefox Windows Media Player plug in available from Microsoft. I downloaded it and saved it to my computer. Ran the install, closed Firefox, then restarted and it all worked. This linked helped me:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+Windows+Media+Player+plugin+with+Firefox

Wanted to share what I did to get sounds to play on my Windows XP PC system in hopes it helps others.

YouTube HD is now Available - Watch it here.

Saw some examples of YouTube HD tonight available online on their website... It is a new feature test available only for some videos. The normal YouTube resolution (native window size) is 320 x 240 pixels and the new YouTube HD resolution is 448 x 336 (Note: our software can do 1280 x 624 or more in a similar file size to the YouTube new videos being tested).

Look for this newly added YouTube switch on some videos "Watch this video in higher quality" to try out the new improved YouTube HD:

YouTube HD Switch to - Watch this video in higher quality.

To see and try the new 'higher quality' switch out for yourself click HERE to be directed to a YouTube video on a dog that skateboards.

Here is what the same new YouTube HD test video looks like compared to the regular YouTube we all know embedded in a website...

YouTube Regular:

YouTube HD:

My feedback is below to the person who clearly knows YouTube HD's current plans for making this available as well as the YouTube HD test strategies:

"Thank you for the interesting and great information on what is going on on the inside. Curious how you know such things and so much ;) Can you share? If so let’s talk.

We find your blog interesting reading. The better quality of the new HD YouTube is welcome in a world where 20% of the HTTP traffic is said to be YouTube videos.

Want to let you know better than the ‘new’ YouTube HD videos online can be watched by clicking on the upper right menu on our website, designavs.com. To see a computer 1080p example on your machine right now click on ‘Spiderman 3′.

The 1080p full screen video there is native 1280 x 624 pixels optimized to play full screen on EXISTING normal notebook computers WITHOUT upgrades including Linux at wi-fi wireless speed and looks great (ten times smaller than the original). 480p is also shown (848 x 436 px) and is sixteen times smaller built for those of us who have old clunkers around to fill up the screen. At similar to the file sizes YouTube uses now, as viewed by checking our temporary files, can do better.

Without our solution original quality HD video at normal connection speeds to watch without delay is not possible. Downloading or waiting for a buffer to fill is a pain and part of why YouTube is so popular today.

Please notice our sound is also way better than YouTube or any others. Current video compression solutions often muffle sound as well as makes it not synchronized to movement /action. Our results not only look the best they sound the best as you will hear when you turn up the speakers if you visit our site.

If anyone knows the decision makers at YouTube have them get in touch with me as can help them after development for seven years and filing our patents. Can enable anyone who wants to distribute HD video online with the best quality in the smallest file sizes. There are millions of existing computers and mobile devices.

Unfortunately, many of the newly touted HD ’solutions’ require new hardware and/or software and often have operating system limitations (examples: Intel, TI, Adobe, Microsoft, …). The big hidden problem is the videos for the new HD ideas of today will only play on a new idea creator’s configuration. What about those of us who want HD on existing machines and ‘old clunkers’? What if someone want to distribute internet advertising to maximize their audience? Smaller files with great look/sound play better today and in the future to make money through bandwidth and storage improvements.

Thank you YouTube for the upgrade to quality in a way it runs on existing machines. Hope to talk about ways of doing things even better.

Glad to answer any questions from anyone. Can prove we are the best anywhere today. For those curious, we are a funded profitable start-up, after just a few weeks officially with our doors open, who sells software and services to those who want to distribute the best HD available anywhere today.

Have the best looking 3GP video on Mobile Devices, Cell Phones, PCs, Apple, and Linux

We can put the best looking video on cell phones like the Apply iPhone and one mobile devices such as the Apply iPod. Our video compression transcoding solution supports 3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones.

3GP is a simplified version of the MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) media container format, designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to accommodate mobile phones. It stores video streams as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264), and audio streams as AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+ or AAC-LC. A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring the most significant bytes first. It also contains descriptions of image sizes and bitrate. There are two different standards for this format:

  • 3GPP (for GSM-based Phones, may have filename extension .3gp)
  • 3GPP2 (for CDMA-based Phones, may have filename extension .3g2)

Both are based on MPEG-4 and H.263 video, and AAC or AMR audio.

When transferred to a computer, 3GP movies can be viewed on Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms with programs such as VLC media player, RealPlayer, QuickTime and Media Player Classic.

Hardware support

  • Most 3G capable mobile phones support the playback and recording of video in 3GP format.
  • Some newer phones without 3G capabilities may also playback and record in this format.
  • In iMovie '08, a movie exported using the "Tiny" setting is saved as a .3gp file and can be played on a Mac, an iPhone, an iPod touch or using Apple's .Mac Web Gallery service.

Video compression transcoding will make a huge difference on how long a video is possible when running with limited storage/memory.

Full-screen HD video online without a computer upgrade is now here at wireless speeds!

Get media to the masses immediately.

Millions can now watch the best quality full-screen HD television-like network programming on their existing computers or phones while save money without upgrade expense. Cable-type 'services' are possible to anyone with an online connection possibly on the other side of the globe. Smaller file sizes improve bandwidth and increase storage to save money and make any system work better now and in the future.

Intel has new chips to enable future systems to display HD streaming video online full-screen in the future, as they are in the business to sell new high-end systems. Having to buy new computers just to see quality HD media costs money - especially if you are a large organization.

To see an example right now of our full-screen full-motion HD video online embedded in our website on your computer over your connection please visit: http://www.designavs.com/. Then use the menu in the upper right. On the menu under 'Spiderman' is same movie trailer as deployed by Sony Pictures, Comcast, YouTube, and MySpace.

What we have works now on the systems of today with the smallest file sizes to reduce storage and bandwidth. It will also make the future systems work better for the same reason. We enable video media in the best quality HD possible to be watched now without delay by the currently installed base of PCs and Apple Mac's without upgrades or plug-ins on any operating system including Linux.

We can input or output any video file format into our video compression transcoding. 'Normal' and 'standard' typical file formats we know work are Flash (.FLV), Microsoft Windows Media Video (.WMV), QuickTime (.MOV), and Audio Video Interleave (.AVI), 3GP, MPEG-4 (MP4), H.264, etc. Something huge goes in and something 10 times or more smaller still great looking comes out the other side. For now we are most often asked to output end-results as Adobe/Macromedia Flash video (.FLV) files as is what most of our customers seem to desire while able to do anything.

We are watching Microsoft Silverlight and Video.Show activities closely as our video compression/transcoding provides the best end results in the smallest files to the Microsoft end-user community as well. We feel the new streaming media channels that can be created are useful to the masses. We can help Silverlight users have the nicest looking video to send around more easily in less bandwidth time and stored in smaller disk space. To write Windows Media Video .WMV file output one needs to be licensed by Microsoft. We are able to input .WMV and output .FLV and there is an example on our upper right menu from the Microsoft HD Content Showcase. We can input .WMV then output a much smaller close-to-original quality .WMV files that look better than anything in the Silverlight world today in full-screen HD without upgrade to hardware or software on existing computer systems. We have the best video compression transcoding available anywhere. Many in the Flash video world have been checking us out and are impressed. Our video compression transcoding will also make the smallest great looking top-quality video for Silverlight/Video.Show environment.

If anyone wants us to compress an example clip we can do it upon request. We have simply the best video compression and transcoding solution on the market.

HD video online for existing machines is now here

We make it now possible to get original-quality video in the smallest file sizes on any host. People can watch the best quality HD television-like network programming, similar to having 'cable service', on their existing computers or phones. Intel and others will help create future systems to do this, and what we are talking about works on the systems of today and will also make future systems work better. We enable media in the best quality HD possible to be watched now by the currently installed base of millions without upgrades or plug-ins.

To watch HD video online with existing wireless mobile notebook computers has not been possible with existing video transcode solutions at typical bit rates until now. Original video files are often too huge to use while compressed videos distributed online today are shown in hard to see little windows and ugly to watch when expanded. As a solution, we have created the world's best video compression. In development for seven years our 'patent pending' process allows television quality on existing installed systems without change to any hardware or software. Original-quality smaller-sized compressed video files help those who move video files around online or otherwise. Below and on our Video Examples page you can see our solution in action. On this page are ours, Sony, Comcast, YouTube, and MySpace implementation examples for the same media. Our customers get more bandwidth, additional storage, new solutions, and expanded capabilities.

Video compression helps distribute end-results with superior quality over any connection including: broadband, DSL, H.264, wireless, cell phones, dial-up, cable, mobile devices, 3GP, MPEG-4 (MP4), military systems, RF, wideband, PCIe, Advanced Switching (www.asi-sig.org), satellite, and even USB. We increase possibilities at any bandwidth!

Here is a side by side comparison of different HD video online so you can see the difference. In this case we will use the Disney Narnia Movie Trailer 3 1080p video obtained as a 172 Mb file, with a 3000k bits per second (bps) bit rate, at 24 frames per second (fps) downloaded then compressed from:

This video we compressed 12x into a 14.5 Mb file, with a bit rate of 800k bps, at 29.97 fps - looks fairly good.

This video is one we compressed 23x into a 7.7 Mb file, with a bit rate of 400k bps, at 29.97 fps - looks a bit fuzzy while is still way better than YouTube

Some of us need reading glasses to see the difference, but with them on it is clear. We are better than all others with the same media clip at the same file size, same bit rate, and have a superior reduced frame rate. When comparing videos look at the sharp edges, fast moving objects, and pause once in a while at fast moving times to see still frames. A trick of the filmmakers is to not have the background change much so they can look the best possible in digital video. Note we often use a higher frame rate than this original, 30 frames per second (fps), as is better for movement of subjects such as in an action film, news, or sports media.

What would you like to talk about? All feedback on our webpage or this blog is welcome. Please come back and see the changes as this blog and our webpage (www.designavs.com) are both 'under construction' nightly in attempt to let the world know our new video compression transcoding deinterlacer scaler software enables among other things: HD video online full screen at wi-fi speeds, the best looking video on all mobile devices, and the highest quality end user experience to existing as well as future displays with advantages through having the smallest file sizes for any situation. Our sound quality and synchronization are also the best after compression when delivered - crank up some good speakers as you watch the examples on our Main Page to hear the difference between us and Sony, Comcast, MySpace, and YouTube.
